My Top Photography Tip

Say “Cheese!” Do you use your cell phone 100% of the time to take photos of products and life? Great, me too! More specifically I use an iPhone to capture my product photos and memories. Using your cell phone is just so convenient to use when you are on the go or want to keep your photos on you at all times. Just slip that bad boy in your back pocket and you are always ready to capture whatever comes your way.

In the past I just trusted the factory settings that came with the phone and captured away. But now, through my product photography journey, I have learned a few new tricks and my favorite one is the exposure. Did you know that you can easily adjust the exposure on your phone’s camera to allow for different lighting? Let me show you how!

To begin, head to the settings on your phone and scroll down until you find the ‘Camera’ app

Once the camera app is open in the settings click/touch the ‘Preserve Settings’ option.

In the new menu, toggle on the ‘Exposure Adjustment’ the toggle should turn green to indicate that it is activated.

Now that you have toggled on the exposure tool you are all set to go. Open your camera app and in the top left hand corner you will notice a left to right grid that will allow you to adjust the exposure of your photo. When you tap the exposure grid in the top left you will notice at the bottom of your screen that a - to + scale has appeared. When you move the scale to the right (-) it will decrease the exposure making photos darker and if you move the scale to the left (+) it will increase the exposure making photos brighter.

The exposure tool is golden when taking product photos but also when capturing memories. You can’t always adjust the lighting in a picture but you can adjust the exposure to help you capture that perfect picture!

Happy Snapping!
